Give ChartThat a table with a period column — months, quarters, years — and one or more numeric columns. When the shape says "something is moving", the line chart shows up among the recommendations. Export it as a native, editable PPTX chart (double-click to open the data sheet in PowerPoint or WPS) or as an animated GIF for the deck that needs motion. Free, no sign-up, no watermark.

When a line chart wins

  • The story is momentum. Growth, decline, recovery, plateau — slopes read instantly, bar tops do not.
  • You need the inflection point. The month churn flattened, the quarter growth bent. Lines make turning points visible; that is where you put your talk track.
  • Two or three series race. Plan vs actual, this year vs last. A few lines on one axis is the cleanest race in the chart world.

When it lets you down

  • Your categories have no order. A line across "North, South, East, West" implies a journey that does not exist. Use a bar chart.
  • More than four series. Spaghetti. Cut series or split the chart — attention is the budget.
  • Composition is the point. If the parts matter more than the movement, that is an area or stacked bar job.
